Meandarra ANZAC Memorial Museum

A majestic museum reflecting on the ANZAC's and all those who have served. The collection comprises of local veteran''s personal items, various large vehicles, and specialised exhibitions.

The idea for the Meandarra ANZAC Memorial Museum began at a public meeting in Meandarra in 2001, at which time a commitment was made between the local community and the former Tara Shire Council to ensure a significant local collection was not sold, but stayed within the region. A committee was formed at the public meeting, which was attended by 75 community members and representatives from the former Tara Shire Council. Most of the artefacts to be displayed in the museum had already been restored.
In 2003, notification was received from The Minister for Veterans Affairs, that rare permission had been granted to use the word “ANZAC” in the museum's name, as the museum would typify the bravery and self sacrifice of the first ANZACs. The residents of Meandarra who have formed the Meandarra ANZAC Memorial Museum Management Committee significantly contribute to fostering tourism and community development in Meandarra. Funding for this project was made available through Q150, Legacy Infrastructure Program, Rural Living Infrastructure Program, and Tara Shire Council. The museum is now run jointly by the Management Committee and Western Downs Regional Council.
